Syncros Endurance Race Report from Bristol 6 Hour

2010
Bristol Bikefest? What can I say? I guess I'll just start at the beginning: I'd been looking forward to the event for a while. I'm settled here in Bristol now and it feels like home, so a home race on my home trails. The weather was looking like it would be kind to us, the trails were running well, and I was starting to get all the indications that I might be in OK shape. Certainly I'm in a very comfortable place as a rider and my thoughts on the event and racing in general are all based on enjoyment and fun rather than any great outcome.

Steve Peat Launches Legacy Project

Young riders will be offered a leg up into pro downhilling through the new Steve Peat Syndicate, officially launching this weekend at the Fort William World Cup.
The Syndicate plans to provide a pro level programme to up-and-coming riders, designed to help raise their riding standards and give them a taste of the benefits of a pro team set up.
Heavyweight support is behind the Syndicate from the likes of the Santa Cruz V10 bike, SRAM, Rockshox and Avid Components, two sets of SPS custom Royal race kit (including team jerseys), 661 helmet and pads and two weekend training camps with Peat and other top World Cup riders.
Peat, world champ downhiller, has previously helped young riders like World Cup stars Josh Bryceland and Brendan Fairclough. The new Syndicate will further that aim with the full support of a pit space and paddock area at races, complete with Mercedes Sprinter team van, awnings and chill out areas with a team mechanic on hand.
Peat will also be on hand to walk the tracks with the team before a race – schedule permitting – offering his advice and experience gained over almost two decades of top level racing.
“I’ve been keen to do this for a few years now,” explained Peat.
“SPS gives riders of all ages the ability to improve their riding with full pro level support and advice as well as have loads of fun along the way.”
“The fun element is a key part of SPS. We ride bikes after all – it’s meant to be fun. But when the goggles and helmet go on it’s race time, it’s serious. We’ll help make riders better and hopefully see them progress as far as they want to go.”

Fort William, Scotland
June 6, 2010

Santa Cruz Syndicate's Greg Minnaar (SRAM/RockShox) retains the leader's jersey in the UCI World Cup Downhill Series with a 3rd place finish today on this dry, dusty, brutal track in Fort William, Scotland. Steve Peat and Josh Bryceland made improvements on their qualifying runs, but still battled to get the flow just right and placed 18th and 26th respectively. As always, the crowd and atmosphere here at Fort William was vibrant with over 7,000 people watching the downhill.

May is upon us and the first round of the world cup is here. This is the real head turner moment when there are new sponsors on the scene, new setups, new attitudes and new riders.
Maribor has been used quite a few times over the years and consistently since 2007 so the venue is well prepared for a race and the weather is usually good...

World Cup Round 1: Maribor, Slovenia
Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate/SRAM/RockShox), starts off the UCI World Cup downhill season with a big win. He put together a brilliant run to win the season opener in Maribor, Slovenia in the most dismal conditions on a course Greg would describe as "the hardest course I've ever ridden because of the mud and rain." Teammates Josh Bryceland and Steve Peat strung together less than optimal runs for disappointing 16th and 45th positions respectively.

Wow, what a busy trip in Portugal for the Santa Cruz Syndicate this has been! Landing in Porto, Portugal last week and having 20 pieces of baggage (large baggage at that), all arriving with us started the trip well. With Ricky Bobby and the brand new Peaty Syndicate van waiting curbside for us, we stuffed the van full and hustled down to Lousa to meet up with Cedric Gracia and his new Brigade rig. The mechanics and Santa Cruz engineers, Joe Graney and Josh Kissner went right to work to get the new Santa Cruz Carbon V-10’s ready to test. Jon Cancellier from SRAM/RockShox was also there to keep things top notch in his department.
