It was only a matter of time before the weight and strength benefits we were seeing in our other carbon fiber bikes tempted us to apply the material to the V-10, with the same goals: reduce weight, gain strength. In this instance there was an additional goal: put the prototypes under the Santa Cruz Syndicate riders and go win World Cup Downhill races. Halfway through the 2010 season, the bike pictured here is still a prototype Syndicate frame, the frame weighs a pound less than the aluminum frame it will supercede, and the new V-10c had won two out of three World Cups, finished third once, and was leading the World Cup Overall. Only a prototype, already a winner.

I've heard the V10 carbon has adjustable travel- what do I need to do to adjust it?

To change travel on the V10, simply remove the bolt at the rear of the shock, and flip the stainless inserts around. Put the bolt back in the new position, and you are done.

If your bike has a Vivid Air, change the air pressure so you get the amount of sag you like (our setup guide has good starting pressures).

If your bike has a coil shock, we recommend dropping the spring by #50 when changing to 8.5" travel mode.

When changing to 8.5" travel mode, you will want to change the damping settings to work with the reduced leverage ratio. In addition, the chainguide can be rotated further clockwise in the 8.5" mode. Just make sure to move it back when going back to 10" mode.

Does the Cane Creek Angleset come with my frame?

All V10's (frames and complete bikes) will come with the Angleset, except for the 100 Syndicate Replica bikes, which use a Chris King Inset.

Included with the AngleSet are 0deg, +/-0.5deg, and +/-1deg cups. Complete bikes ship with the 0degree installed.

What is included with my frame?

Included with all frames and complete bikes are the following:
SCB rear axle for 150x12 hubs
Grease Gun
Grease
Chainstay protector
Rear Shock Owners Manual

What chainguides will fit the V10 carbon?

The V10 uses ISCG05 tabs, and most any guide made for this application should bolt right on. We have used the MRP G2, Gamut, and E13 LG1/SRS with success.

Can I buy a frame with the Syndicate paint job?

The Syndicate paint job is only available on 100 limited edition complete bikes- which are already sold out. Track down a dealer that has ordered one already if you are interested in this model.

For the stock colors, see the V10c Bike Builder section of this website.

What size tire will fit in the V10c?

We hate to make concrete promises here, as tires vary so much- but most any 2.5" tire will fit in the swingarm. Some 2.7" will work as well.

What size fork crown do I need?

The V10c was designed to accept the short Boxxer crown, and the stock Fox 40 or 888 crown. If using the Fox 40 crown make sure you have one 5mm headset spacer underneath the upper crown to avoid any interference with the top tube.

If you want to use a tall Boxxer crown to raise the handlebar up, check for interference between the crown and toptube at full steering lock. Pad the crown as needed to avoid chipping the paint.

What size seatpost does the V10 use?

The V10 requires a 30.9mm seatpost. Make sure it is always inserted a mininmum of 100mm into the frame.

I read that the V10c uses the same swingarm as the Driver 8- is that true?

The swingarm is very similar, but it is different. The V10 uses some slightly different structural elements for stiffness, and a pinch bolt for the rear wheel axle (unlike the Driver 8, which uses the Maxle).

I notice that both of the color options are clear coated carbon with different color decals- why no paint?

Painting carbon bikes actually adds a decent amount of weight, and we didn't want to waste any grams for these race bikes. In addition, the clear finish will look much better over time- especially on a DH bike which gets a lot of abuse.

What cranks are compatible with the V10?

The V10 uses an 83mm bb (for 55-57mm chainline), so pretty much anything built for 83mm will fit. If using a Truvativ Howitzer setup, the 56mm chainline version is required.

What size shock is on the V10 carbon?

The V10 uses a 9.5x3" rear shock (240x76mm)
the mounting hardware is M8x22 (or 21.8mm if purchasing rockshox)
